Summary: John Ormsby was drafted and mustered on October 7, 1864, in Owensboro, Kentucky (Co. G, 122 USCI). He was discharged on October 9, 1865, but never made it home alive because of a boating accident traveling from New Orleans, Louisiana to Louisville, Kentucky. John was married to David Ella Ormsby and a former resident of Louisville, Kentucky. They had three children together: Fanny, Anna, and Andrew Ormsby. David Ella’s maiden name was “Woodford,” her pension was dropped on May 23, 1902. She continued living in Louisville, Kentucky after the death of her husband.
