Summary: John A. Southgate was married to Mary Warner on December 26, 1859, by a Methodist minister, George Wyatt. They were both residents of Kentucky and never had any children together. According to Mary’s pension she and John were free persons of color. John Southgate was enrolled and mustered on May 20, 1864, at Covington, Kentucky. died on November 16, 1864, from acute bronchitis at a hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

Mary Warner resided in Lorain County, Ohio.
