In the matter of the application for pension of Newton Jackson.

On this 6th day of July A.D. 1896, personally appeared before me a Notary Public in and for the County of Santa Fe Territory of New Mexico, duly authorized to administer oaths, Newton Jackson to be known to be reputable and to credit; and who being by me duly sworn declared, in relation to his application for pension; now pending in the United States Pension Office as Ino O. No 1159255, as a private Company "D" 18th Regt., U.S. Colored Infty., volunteers, that he first became affected by hernia of the bowels in the early part of the year A.D. 1865. That such hernia was not caused by vicious habits, but by heavy labor and lifting while working on Port Miami and Cambridge in the state of Missouri. That on account of said injury he was in the hospital at Chattanooga Tennessee whilst in the service and in the U.S. Military hospital at St. Louis Mo. After his discharge
