General Affidavit
Territoy of New Mexico, County of Santa Fe', ss:
In the matter of The claim No. 1159255, of Newton
Jackson of Santa Fe' New Mexico
On this second day of December, A. D. 1896, personally
appeared before me a notary public in and for the afore-
said County, duly authorized to administer oaths Anderson Chapman
aged 64 years, a resident of Santa Fe', in the County
of Santa Fe', and territory of New Mexico
whose Post-Office address is Santa Fe' New Mexico
__, aged __ years, a resident of __
__, in the County of __
and State of __, whose Post-office address is __

well known to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid
case as follows: that he is personally well acquainted
with Newton Jackson the aboved named
(Note.-Affiants should state how they gain a knowledge of the facts to which they testify.)
Applicant for a pension under the laws of
the United States and has
known him since the year 1862, prior to
his entering the service of the United States
as a private of Company D. 18th regiment
United States Colored Infantry, and also
knew him as a soldier in said company and
regiment during his service as such that his
first acquaintance with said Newton Jackson
was in Kansas City Missouri up to the time
of his enlistment, of which time he was a
very young man, in vigoris and perfect
health and condition. Affiant says that he,
affiant, served as a soldier in the sixteenth
regiment United States Colored Infantry
for two years and was a prisoner of war
that the two regiments were, during the said
time frequently together and he often said and
joked to the said Newton Jackson that he
having escaped from prison, met the said
Newton Jackson in St Louis MO, last in the year
1865 and found him suffering from rupture of
the bowel which said Jackson described to
him and exhibited to him, and which deemed to
affaint to be very severe and serious, very
seriously affecting and potentally dis
abling him, and rendering him wholly inca-
pable of manuel labor or any considerable
