that the only witnesses ? in this territory who were cognizant of the facts so far as is known to affiant were Henry Lyon and Lawrence Gordon both of whom died some few years ago at Pueblo Colorado as affiant is informed and believes. General Affidavit Territory of New Mexico County of Santa Fe Sworn to and subscri before me, this Second day of December A.D. 1896 by the above named Anderson Chapman and I certify that said Affidavit was fully read and explained to the said affiant before he executed the same. And I certify that I am in no wise interested in said case nor concerned in its prosecution, and that said affiant is personally known to me and that he is a credible person. physical exertion. Affaint says he again met and knew the said Newton Jacksonat Kanas City Mo. in the month of May 1866 When, he was still suffering from said rupture Affiant says that he was discharged from the service at Fort Selden, New Mexico in the month of July 1868, and that a few weeks thereafter he met the said Newton Jackson at Las Vegas New Mexico, and (?) that time forth the claimant and affiant have resided in the territory of New Mexico, and have frequent ly been together, and have met almost daily - that during all of the time the said Newton Jackson has suffered from the effects of said rupture, and still so suffers to such and extent as to be wholly incapable of manual labor. Affiant says that during all the time the said Newton Jackson, has been of good habits, sobriety orderly and well behaved, and that the affiant has no interest in the claim for pension of said Newton Jackson except the desire that a worthy and deserving man who faithfully served the country as a soldier should obtain what the laws of the country entitle him to receive. Affiant says, that his foregoing statement and affidavit was all written for him in his presence by Mr.William Breeden, in offices at Santa Fe' New Mexico, between the hours of ten and eleven O'clock in the forenoon of Wednesday December 2nd A.D. 1896, when where and to whom he made his statement and that in making the same orally and that in making the same he was not (?) or assisted by any written statement or memorandum, nor by any suggestion by any person, but made the same of his own unassisted knowledge and recollection.
