Regarding Mr Jennings[?] letter, (a copy of which has been sent me from your
Dept) touching upon the protection of Salmon in the Tobique [river?] ; and being requested to report thereon. I now beg to state as follows.
In the letter " Mr Jenning[?] begs to be informed if the antiquated, and most destructive way of getting ova, for the Napiel-des-Faume House, by sweeping the parent salmon from their spawning beds, after they have run the gauntlet of drift nets, off [?]; the weirs in the Harbour of St Johns; the nets along the whole course of the St Johns River, from the Harbour to the Grand Falls, and the [?] of White, and Red [?], from the mouth of Tobique to the spawning grounds on the Serpentine." x x x
These sweeping remarks about the destruction of Salmon, with the jurisdiction and oversight of the New Brunswick Inspector; leads me to conclude [?] little in [?] efforts whatever
