In connection with this subject of procuring fish eggs, for their autumn supplies for the several Hatcheries, I desire to put your Dept in possession of the following information.

[?] Newcastle Hatchery In addition to the expected supplies of salmon-trout ova, referred to from Colpoy's Bay, I have dispatched [Mr Kennefish?] a very superior manipulator of fish, to Pigeon Island in Lake Ontario with instructions to gather whatever eggs possible [?] to the end of October: he will then return and proceed to Wiarton and join the other officers there on duty.

Mr. Charles Wilmot with his assistants have gone to the Muskoka Waters north of this place with the view to secure as large a supply as possible of the Speckled Trout ova. The distance

is great, and the obstacles so onerous in canoeing and portaging the Eggs through [akiled?] country, creates considerable anxiety.-- Expectations however are that a goodly supply will be obtained from Muskoka. Mr. Chas WIlmot will go to Wiarton to take charge personally of the operations there during November.

Magog Hatchery

No local effort will be made to collect eggs in the Magog Lakes: as it is proposed to stock that nursery with Salmon trout Eggs from Colpoys Bay. --

Tadoussac Hatchery

Mr. Latellier in charge there writes me that, the stock of Parent Salmon impounded, are in prime condition, and that spawning operations will soon commence. He also informs me that he will have a few Speckled trout ova to send there: but his effort in getting supplies of Speckled trout have not been as satisfactory as he would wish.

Gaspe Hatchery

Mr [Gilech?] in charge, replies to say [Exqunish?] the [?] stock of

Parent Salmon are in about the same as last year; and that they are in a healthy condition; and streaming operations will soon commence.

Restigouche Hatchery

A large number of Parent Salmon are impounded in the reservoir at Tide-Head:[?] last accounts describe them to be in as good healthy condition, and that every reliance may be placed upon getting a large supply of eggs from them. -- Mr. Mowats efforts to obtain supplies of spec-trout eggs have not been very satisfactory, he is however still pursuing the work in order to secure what ova he can.--

Miramachi Hatchery

The officer's last report states that, he was actively engaged in capturing his supply of parent salmon up river: - a number have been taken, with expectations of getting and average stock. --

St. John River Hatchery. Mr. McCluskeys last report was that, he was starting off with his [?] to the head water of the

Tobique, where he usually gets his supply - he did not anticipate as large a number as usual, as Salmon are not expected to be as numerous as last year; and that poachers are more numerous :some short time must elapse before I shall know the results of his work.

Bedford Hatchery N.S.

Mr. A B Wilmot informs me that, he is making every [?] to obtain a good supply of Salmon at Musquodoboit river; and also at the river at Pictou Harbour.

Sidney Hatchery, C.B. The officer in charge [?], writes that, his expecations are that he will get as large a number of Salmon as he did last year:-if this is realized it will be very Satisfactory -

Dunk River Hatchery, P.E.I.

No report has been sent me from the officer in charge, and I am not informed what progress Mr. Dewar had made regarding mending the dam, and carrying out the [?] repairs to the [?-sh]ielding necessary for operations this year -

All other information regarding the stocking of the several Hatcheries with ova will be given to your Department from time to time as may be required.
