Dear Professor:

I am duly in receipt of your letter of the 14th with the bill for book which I shall attend to as soon as possible, and remit the amount.

Professor Seliveger (?) has very kindly presented his stratigraphical services of American rocks for which we are very much indebted. I am sorry to say we have not been so fortunate with your other collections as we had hoped. The Canadian Commissioner succeeded in carrying their point in regard to the return of many of the things to Ottawa; and the Plumbago (?) exhaled (?) was presented to the school of mining engineers at New York (this needs a strikethrough) although I think we could have done better with it at Wsahington especially as there is quite a probability of the erection of a public buidling
