Lake Champlain, N. Y.

The strength of a nation is determined by the character of its people. Mr. Henry C. Markley, of Greenville, embodied in many ways the characteristics of an ideal citizen. He was a sucessful businessman. He was thoroughly honest in his dealings. He was kindly in disposition. He contributed generously to all causes worth-while and to projects which furthered the interests of his town. He was Christlike in conduct. He gave Christ Episcopal Church much property. The Parish House of the church is named for him. After his death, there were many rocks and stones found in his home which he had collected from many places in the world. When our lodge was started his niece, Miss Markley, gave us the rocks and also our wonderful collection of Geographics.

The small stone from Lake Champlain was in his collection. This beautiful lake is described in the articles on Fort Ticonderoga and Crown Point found in other sections of this book.
