Complexion black no perceivable marks. To have and to hold unto the said Joseph McReynolds the above described slave Eliza against me, my executors and administrators and against every other person or persons legally claiming the same, warranted an defended as sound, sane, and a slave for life. Farrill {Hale Joseph To Amos Elliott Page 24} To all people to whom this present bill of sale shall come, know ye, that I Joseph Hale of the County of Shelby and State of Alabama send greeting that for and in consideration of the sum of six hundred Dollars to me in hand paid, or promised to be paid, hath this day granted, bargained, and sold, unto Amos Elliott of the county and state aforesaid a negro man named Garrett fifty years of age, and a negro woman named Charlotte forty years of age, wife of the said Garrett, both slaves, to the only proper use and benefit of [him] the said Amos Elliott his heirs & assigns forever, and against the lawful titles, claims, and demand of all and every person or persons, shall and will warrant & forever defend.
