The state of Alabama Shelby County - We the jury of Inquest after Examining the negro boy Rueben the property of J W Roper{Ded} giv it as our belief that the said boy Came to his death, by inhaling, the obnoxious Gass Confined inside the well July 5th 1853 Hardy Horton Os Edward Neal Henry Hanlow W.K. Rushing Jonathan Hally Robt Seale Elijah Seale Under my order the above named persons were summoned as a jury of inquest in the premises & after being duly sworn by me proceeded to the investigation of the matter & made & returned before me the above verdit - Given under my hand this 5th day of July 1853.
