The State of Alabama Shelby County - SS Known all men by these presents, that we John W. Mardis and Thomas L. Morrow

are held and firmly bound to WL and DW Prentice in the penal sum of 295.22/100 dollars, to which payment well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, one and each of our heirs, Executors and Administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals - dated the 17th day of Janry, A.D. 1855-

Whereas, an execution in favor of the said WL and DW Prentice issued by the Circuit Court of said County, on the 2nd day of October 1854, upon a judgment rendered by said Court agains the said John W. Mardis on the 15th of Sepr 1854, for the sum of 147 6/100 dollars, beside costs of suit, was on the 17th day of Janry 1855, by H. W. Nelson Sheriff of said Shelby County, levied upon the following property, to wit: one Negro Girl Mary about sixteen dark copper colour

Now the condition of this obligation is such that if the above bound John W. Mardis shall deliver the property levied on, to the said Sheriff, at Montevallo by 12 o'clock, noon of the 2nd Monday of Febuary then this obligation shall be void, or otherwise to continue in full force. TO ANY SHERIFF OF THE STATE:

You are herby commanded that the goods and chattels, lands and tenements of John W. Mardis you cause to be made the sum of one hundred and forty seven 61/1000 dollars which William L. Prentice and Daniel W. Prentice recovered of him on the 15th day of September 1854, by the judgment of our Circuit Court held for the County of Shelby besides sixteen dollars cost of suit, and have the same to render the said WL & DW Prentice ; and make return of this writ and the execution thereof according to law. Witness my hand this 2nd day of October 1854. Michael J. O'Barr Clerk. Issued the second day of October 1854.
