The State of Alabama In Circuit Court
Shelby County At August Term 1850

The Grand Jurors for the state of Alabama
empanneled sworn and charged to inquire
for the Couty of Shelby on their oath present
that Thomas J Nash late of said county on
the first day of August A.D. 1850 in the county
aforesaid did buy a commodity to wit five
bushels of corn from a slave named Lips
the property of Benjamin T Randall as administrator
of the estate of Frances Neal decd, without the leave
or consent of the master, owner, or overseer of said slave
verbally or in writing exprefing the article permitted
to be sold being first obtained, contrary to the
statute in such case made and provided and against
the peace and dignity of the state of alabama

And the Grand Jurors aforesaid, on their oath
aforesaid do further present that the said Thomas
J Nash on the day and year aforesaid in
the county aforesaid did buy a commodity
to give ten pounds of bacon of a slave named
William otherwise called Bill the property of
Alexander Nelson without the leave or consent
of the master owner or overseer of said slave
verbally or in writing exprepsing the article per
mitted to be sold being first obtained
contrary to the statute in such case made
and provided and against the peace and dignity
of the state of alabama
