The State of Alabama In Circuit Court Shelby County At March Term 1852

The Grand Jurors for the State of Alabama impannelled persons and charged to inquire for the County of Shelby on their oath present that Kidd Lewis and Sterrett Davis both late of said County on the first day of March in the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty two in the county aforesaid did engage in the business of retailing spirituous liquors in the village of Harpersville in said County and being so engaged in the business aforesaid did on the said first day of March in the year One thousand eight hundred and fifty two in County aforesaid and in the village of Harpersville aforesaid sell spiritous liquor to wit rum brandy and whiskey in less quantity than one quart to one James M Finley and to diverse other persons whose names are to the Grand Jurors aforesaid unkown, without having first having procurred a license from the Judge of Probate of said County. Contrary to the statute in such case made and provided and against the peace and dignity of the State of Alabama.

And the Grand Jurors aforesaid on their oath aforesaid do further present that the said Kidd Lewis and Sterrett Davis on the day and year aforesaid in the County aforesaid did engage in the business and carry on the employment of retailing spirituous liquors, and being so engaged in the business, and carrying in the employment of aforesaid, on the day and year aforesaid in the County aforesaid did sell spirituous liquors to wit rum brandy and whiskey in less quantity than one quart to Thomas B Kidd and divers other persons to the Grand Jurors

aforesaid unknown without having first procured a license from the Judge of Probate of said County, contrary to the statute in such case made and provided and against the peace and dignity of the State of Alabama.

And the Grand Jurors aforesaid on their oath aforesaid do further present that the said Kidd Lewis and Sterrett Davis on the day and year aforesaid in the County aforesaid did engage in the business of retailing spirituous liquors to wit whiskey and brandy without having first procured a license from the Judge of Probate of said County contrary to the statute in such case made and provided and against the peace and dignity of the State of Alabama Wm Mudd solicitor for 3rd Judicial Circt. of Alabama

THE STATE OF ALABAMA Shelby County

Circuit Court Spring TERM 1859

The Grand Jury of said County charge that before the finding of this Indictment, Albert J. Brinker and James S.Lewis did sell give or deliver to a slave named Dan belonging to J N Scott viscous or spirituous liquor without an order in writing signed by the overseer or master of such slave specifying the quantity to be sold given or delivered against the peace and dignity of the State of Alabama.
