The State of Alabama, Shelby County

TO ANY SHERIFF OF THE STATE OF ALABAMA. An indictment having been found at the Spring Term, 1864, of the Circuit Court of Shelby county, against William J Johnson for the offense of trading with a slave against the peace and dignity of the state of Alabama

you are therefore commanded forthwith to arrest the said defendant and commit him to Jail un less he give bail to answer such indictment; and that you return this writ according to law, Attest: Amos M Elliott Clerk of the Circuit Court of Shelby county. Dated this 29th day of March 1864.

The State of ALabama,} Shelby County.}

WE Wm J Johnson & J M McClanahan & D N McClanahan agree to pay the State of Alabama Two hundred dollars, unless the said W.m., J Johnson appear at the next Term of the Circuit Court of Shelby county, and from term to term thereafter until dischaged by law, to answer the offence of Trading with a Slave
