The State of Alabama Shelby County The voluntary Examination of Edward w Potter a man of Collor on tryal said Edward w Potter Being Charged with stealing a Negroe woman Named Aggy from William Curlof said state and County said Potter being on Tryal Before Me and being instructed that he had the previlidge of Asking any question be thought proper of the witnesses present

Quest question 1st Did you invegle or persuade the negroe woman aggy Above Named to Run away with you or not Answerd by said Potter to the above quest "I did not Examined Before me David Neel an acting Justice of the peace May 30th 1826

The examination of John Richey junior a witness in behalf of the sd State in the above Tryal deposeth and saith that on the twenty ninth day of May one thousand Eight Hundred and twenty six this Deponant found the above named Edward w Potter a man of Collar and a negroe woman by the name of aggy travelling in the woods Making towards Huntsville Madison County and Arrested them for Runaway Slaves. they then being in Jefferson County Alabama

The Examination of Daniel Richey a witness in behalf of the state of Alabama being Examined on the tryal of Edward w Potter a man of Collar and said to be a free man this deponant saith that that the Requested said potter above named to tell the truth about his Running away. said potter said that he Knew a good Deal about law and all that he Dreaded was that he had stole the negroe woman there with him from Mr Curl further this deponant saith not I do Hereby Certify that the above Examination was taken before Me on the 30th day of May 1826 David Neel Justice of the peace

The State of Alabama Shelby County be it Remembered that on the 30th day of May 1826. in the County of aforesaid Daniel Richey John Richey Junr both of the County aforesaid of Jefferson & state of Alabama personally came before me David Neel a Justice of the Peace for the County of Shelby & acknowledged themselves indebted to John Murphy Governor or chief magistrate of the State of Alabama & his successors. That is to say the said Daniel Richey & John Richey Junr each in the sum of two hundred & fifty dollars good & lawfull money of this State to be levied of their goods & chattels Lands & Tenements respectively to the use of the said State, If the said Daniel Richey shall make default in the Condition hereon enclosed

The Condition of the above Recognizance is such that If the above bounden Daniel Richey shall appear at the next Circuit Court to be holden at the Court house in the County of Shelby on the third monday in October next to give testamony in behalf of this State & Edward W.Potter a coulered man in the case wherein the said Potter is accused of stealing a negro woman called Aggy the property of William Curl, then the above Recognizance to be void otherwise to to remain in full force & effect Daniel Richey {seal} John Richey jun {seal}

Taken and acknowledged before Me David Neel justice of the peace
