Col. Barney

Dear Sir,

I have just met with Mr. Roberts and Mr. kelly at this place, who informed me that you are distressed about the want of means to meet the payment for the Cabins, the construction of which was authorized by the Ex. Com.-When the Com. authorized you to contract for this work, they, of course, expected you to be furnished with the means to pay for it. I take it upon myself to say, that if you will draw upon Bishop Polk for the amount which you estimated as necessary to make the improvements called for, - that is to say, one Hundred fifty dollars ($150) that your draft will be honored by him upon presentation. Such a draft you can have cashed by any of our merchans or Banks in Nashville and thus relieve yourself at once from embarassment. I advise you to draw on Bp. P. at once, for the time is approaching when he will think of leaving N. Orleans.

If nothing occurs to prevent, I will call upon you tomorrow week /5th July./ Very respectfully Yr Friend & Svnt
