Dear Sir, Yours of the 5th inst.has been recd. concerning card of information as to the laying the Corner Stone of the principal building of the "University of the South" & also an invitation to attend the ceremony.

I regret exceedingly my inability to be present on an occasion so full of interest & gratification to every menber of our Church, but the obstacles, at this juncture existing, to prevent my leaving home, are insurmountable.

Accept my warmet acknowledgements for the Kinship, who prepared the invitation
