Dear Sir:

The polite invitation of the
Executive Committee to myself to
be present at the laying of the
Corner Stone of the principal
building of the University of the South
was received a day or two since at my
place of residence (Augusta) and for-
warded to me at this place-

I regret that a [?] of profession-
al business will keep me in atten-
dance upon the Court of this district
until after the tenth inst.
