Hon G.R. Fairbanks. Memphis Jany 9, 1862.
Dear Sir,
Your favor of the 26th [last?] came duly hand, with enclosures. According to your directions I signed the notes, I sent them by mail to Shff or [?] Mr. R. Enochs Winchester Tenn:.
A house or school are greatly needed at Sewanee. I hear many enquiries for a good school for boys. I shall be glad indeed if an arrangement can be made for opening one, at least by spring.
I am surprised that no printed copies of the minutes of the Bd. at Col'a S.C. have come to hand. My impression is that the Bd. ordered them printed.
I have written to Thos. Adams Esqr. of N. Orleans & sent him a copy of the Resolution of the Bd.
Ought not some public notice be given of the time place & terms of renting the lots you have measured & marked? I shall D.V. be at Nashville on the 26th inst. Might we not get a meeting of the Ex. Com, about that time? After 2 days Cold, & a rain last night, we have again spring weather. My respects & salutations of the season to your family. Yrs faithfully, Jas. H. Otey
