Memphis Feby. 25. 1862.

My dear Sir

Yours of the 19th inst. is this minute to hand. I write these lines in my bed, to which I have been confined for the last 10 days, violent & general cold taken at Nashville.

I will send your letter to Mr. Borden the Express Agt. here with directions to enquire for your Sugar & Molasses & if the merchant has not sent them forward I will tell him to do so by first opp'y. I think it very doubtful however whether any thing can be done. Every thing is in confusion. An order has just arrived here, commanding every steamer to repair to Columbus. I do not know what it means.

I would have had my family at Sewanee two or 3 weeks ago, could I have influenced them. Love to all. Affectionately faithfully my friend,

Jas. H. Otey
