Dear Mrs. Lackey: Our last day of classes is Dec. 13, with exams following. Our first day of classes is January 17. I hope you can make plans within that schedule.
I have put together a list of Bishop Otey's children. Three died before he did: Sarah McGavock in 1847, aged 16; Heber in 1832, aged 9, and Fanny in 1848. Six survived him: Paul, who died in Memphis in 1873, a physician; Virginia Minor who lived in Virginia; Henrietta Tomes (the Nashville daughter, I think); Mary Govan; Eliza (or Donns) Compton; and Mercer. I have a feeling that the lady who came to see me from California was Donna's daughter, but I's not sure.
I enclose a page from Beersheba Springs: A History, published in 1983, and as far as I knew everything in it is correct except that Mrs. Otey was Eliza Pannill from Petersburg, VA, and not Sally McCabock. I am writing to Mr. Gower to ask where that information came from. We will look forward to your visit.
Cordially,
Elizabeth N. Chitty
Trudy, she says she's seen "Tomes" on some papers -
