Rt Revd Wm M Green DD. Chancellor of the University of the South.
Montgomery Alabama:
Rt Revd & Dear Sir: Enclosed I transmit to you my
account as General Treasurer of the University of the South, together with
the vouchers verifying the same. You will perceive that in the winter of
1861.2 I received from the Treasurers of the Dioceses the sum of $1416.05
which with the balance then in my hand, made the sum of $1426.05.
This money was all in confederate notes, but with it, and a small advance
which I made, I was fortunate enough to clear off the indebtedness
of the Corporation to the amount of $1454.72 Earning a balance
of $28.67, due me. I beg that the [A/C?] may be examined and
that I may be informed if it proves satisfactory.

It may be proper to remark that this statement does not by
any means exhibit the actual condition of the Treasury from the fact that
by Order of the Trustees dated Oct 15 1869 the accruing interest
moneys in the hands of the Treasurers of the Dioceses were directed
to be paid to the Chairman of the Executive Committee. What
amount was paid and how expended, I have no means of knowing

Very Respectfully yrs
Jas B. [E?i?head]
Genl Treasurer of the U of the S.
