Regularly every afternoon the sky is overcast with heavy black clouds. There is a continual roll of thunder from the direction of Mt Victoria. Then comes twilight - after sundown. It is more unbelievably beautiful than ever before. The entire landscape appears like a scene from "Gone with the Wind" - as though seen through amber glass, so that the heavens were afire. In the reflections from the rust red surrounds our bodies - almost nude, do resemble Greek Gods. How fortunate we are to have these compensations, Nancy, - it gives our love inspiration. Even the moon has a colourful setting. You've heard the saying, "Once in a blue moon", - well, it was blue barely a few evenings ago.

Today we partly erected a new hut; it's like building with a large mecanno set. This is nearly our twentieth. Viewed from the surrounding hills, our five-months old home is a lasting monument to our labour & the 49th Battn. Gravel paths link the huts and showers - it's a model camp. Swampwater is used both for drinking & washing. Owing to the dust and sweat it is necessary to have a shower 3 or 4 times a day.

Remember little Billy Pritchard - He spoke to us before we said good-bye. The poor kid is as deaf as a beetle from quinine. He's the gamest of us all, even for his quietness. He
