Dearest Nancy,
Xmas found me far happier than I had expected. Every liberty was given us to make it a success. I doubt if I would face another meal. Red Cross & Comforts Fund parcels came as a surprise, and have enough cigarettes to last a month. Mr McKell left on Tuesday for a few days leave & went by 'plane to Bulolo Goldfields. I'd like half his luck. I intend trying for leave again in a few weeks' time. I have invitations to either Oiapu oil fields, Mirageda, or Dietapu rubber plantation - Wish me luck.

There are rumours about a convoy being attacked by a raider in New Guinea waters. However it seems that a number of hostages were left on an island. The Flying boats have been taking them food & water. Thursday night I watched a night landing on the harbour.
