I cannot criticize the court as it contempt of court. The poor bewildered natives. God made all men equal - the missionaries teach it. No doubt that cannot be.

His nibs, Sgt - was delighted with the letter. It meant a great more than any present.

Do you know the chap Close from the point. He is a Sgt in our 49th mess. Somehow we began talking of home & found we knew the same friends.

His main topic of conversation is the chances of joining the A.I.F. since our chances of being relieved is nil it is a great temptation.

Today I recieved some great news. My promotion came through after a long wait. I'm afraid I'll offer no competition as regards social connections, but regard it as a waste
of good time in wartime. However I'll need to study a lot more. One never knows when the call will come. As our official mail has closed please don't address your letter differently , pet. I was met with much excited chatter when I rejoined the platoon wearing pips. The boys couldn't conceal their joy. One wag even thought it correct to clap & went ahead much to my embarassment.

I'm on duty with the owls tonight & must be away. Next mail I shall have a deal more to say.
