The Humble Petition of Mathew Jackson
a Prisoner of the Crown for Life
Respectfully Sheweth,
That Your Petitioner arrived in this Colony in the Ship Claudine in the Year 1829, and was Tried before a Bench of Magistrates at Penrith upon the 25th October 1831 upon a charge of Stealing Some wearing apparel in the dwelling House of Mr John Blaxland - and being convicted received a sentence of [underlined] (Transportation to a Penal Settlement for Three Years) ----
That the only evidence in Support of the prosecution was that of a Boy named Daniel King who stated himself to have been one of the persons who committed the robbery, and Petitioner knows of no reason for his false

evidence upon his Trial, except a quarrel which took place between them some short time previous to the robbery being perpetrated ==
That Petitioner upon Trial received from his Master Mr James Rogers a most excellent character, a fact which he has no doubt will have due weight in Your Excellency's consideration of his case ==
That Petitioner implores Your Excellency to grant his case consideration, trusting that the result of such consideration will be a Mitigation of his present severe and undeserved Sentence ---
