33/3274 - 10 May 1833. Schedule 173/33 11th May 33 - No 33/98. Sheriffs Ofice Sydney 10th May 1833_

Sir In acknowledging the receipt of your letter of the 7th Instant I do myself the honor to enclose a letter from the Superintendent of the Hulk explanatory of the delay represented by the Deputy Commissary General to have taken place in the issue of Slop Clothing to the Prisoners confined on board on the 1st Instant. I have the honor to be Sir Your most obedient humble servant T Macquoid Sheriff

[down left margin] Explaining with reference to Mr Laidleys letter 33/3144 that the reason why the clothing on board the Hulk was not issued until 2nd May, was that the articles were not all marked[marked underlined] (which is necessary to prevent theft) at 7 o'clock when the Commsst Officer

[written diagonally across page] [begin underline]Suprdt of Hulk letter dated[end underline] 9th May 1833. required to be returned-

went on board - having been only supplied late on the previous morning - but that had the Officer intimated any necessity for their being issued on 1st May, this would nevertheless have been done - as they were all ready by 12 o'clock _ For information _ I must confess the complaint of Mr Laidley, (or the Officer under him) appears to me to be uncalled for _ the more particularly as he was himself guilty of irregularity in issuing clothing at the Commissariat Store to the then other convicts in Sydney, might disobey the orders to the contrary. The Honble [sic] The Colonial Secretary.
