Owen or Patrick Flanagan

Sir,
Your letter of the 7th Instant to this
Bench has been handed over to me. in reply I do myself
the honor to acquaint you, that the under-
mentioned persons are also acquainted with
the person and identity of Owen or Patrick
Flanagan, viz John Ford of Parramatta,
my late Overseer _ James Gallagher Constable
of the Sydney Police, formerly my assigned
Servant and Jeremiah Callaghan my
former Gardener who lived in the same
hut with Flannaghan and no doubt
accurately knows his person. Callaghan
is now free, and can probably he found
in this District.
As a journey to Sydney at this
time, would very much inconvenience me,
I would suggest the propriety of Flannagan
being forwarded to this Bench, where his
identity could be satisfactorily established
and any affidavit transmitted for your
guidance and information, but should the other
parties to whom I referred you afford you
sufficient testimony in the matter, this
step will be unnecessary.
I have the honor to be
Sir/
Your Most Obedt Servant

Appears Owen and Patrick Flanagan swapped identities. Bizarre story. Trove (1901) has some details: https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/21269333
