To His Excellency. Major General Richard Bourke, Governor in Chief of New South Wales,

The Petition of Robert Holmes, per Ship "Hadlow", 1820, Life, now under sentence of seven years transportation, at Moreton Bay.

Most humbly sheweth

That your Petitioner was sentenced at the Supreme Court, Sydney, on the 28th May, 1828, for larceny from a hut, when Mr Justice Stephen, before whom be was tried, told him, there were doubts in his case, of which he should receive the advantage.

That your Petitioner, since that period has indeavoured to conduct himself with propriety. and has held the situation of Constable on this settlement for the last nineteen months: _ he earnestly entreats your Excellency to suffer his return to Head quarters in consequence of these circumstances, and the accompanying attestation.

And your Petitioner, as in duty bound, will ever pray. Robert Holmes.
