This its 1st years may be recorded as very satisfactory as a rule: The fall replanting of seedlings rooted cuttings and crowded plants should be done as soon as their resting period is begun. The greenhouse work of stocking it in large for next years stock is begun, so with addition have been added both by a gathering and exchanges. Taking stock will soon begin also. The capacity of the house is so limited to the requirement that the first report monument of adding a needed hot and cold bed and room is imperative to returning the hot house; the same was thoroughly repaired for the winters work your superintendent found it imperative to penetrate the Olympias by reason of the lateness of the season intended he visited the Hood Canal Country and suceeded in gathering ripe seeds of several Shrubs that were not represented 6

7 as well as discovered localities where rare plants as listed in the collection may be conveniently obtained. The total number of planters of native seeds of plants annual and perennials shrubs and tree and vines is now 70 varieties for the obtaining of which the Department has entailed no expense as it does not feel able to assume the same. This collection should yet be made as compleat as possible both for the necessary stock for the Public park improvements The furthermore of important exchanges at home and abroad, as well as to fullfill the conditions entered into with the Institution named in last month's report.
