Report on progress of work for month of Feb'y.

Kinnear Park

With the exception of the construction of a vault under the Ladies' toilet soon the labor in this park has been chiefly employed in planting trees, shrubs and vines on the bluffs and in preparing the steep slopes for grass seed and flower beds. The following is a bit of trees, [ve?], planted during the month,---

10 Thuja gigantia, red cedar 15 Abies Douglasii, Douglas' spruce, 4 Ceraeus mollis, wild cherry, 2 " lauro-cerasus, Cherry laurel, 6 Betula alba, White birch, 311 Spiraea aerifolia, Bridal wreath, 55 Rosa canina, Wild or dog rose, 18 Ribes sanguinea, " currant, 11 Tilia Europea, European Linden, 10 Cornus Florida, large flowering dogwood, 9 Vaccinium, Huckleberry, and 2000 Hedera helix, common ivy.---

Denny Park, Two teams were employed for 18 days in scraping back the surface soil preparatory to grading down the precipitous [outliers?] of the park.--28 loads manure hauled.---

City Park, The lath house authorized at your last meeting has been erected. Superficial area 20x60 feet.---

We are clearing a strip 60 feet wide all along the boundary and have over 3000 lineal feet cleared along the line to that width.----

We have now in the nursery 45,000 plants ranging in value from 5 cts to $5.00 each and I beg to suggest that a small house be erected for the nursery-man and that he be required to sleep there at night.---At present this valuable property is quite unprotected

from to 10 to 14 hours out of every 24.--Cost including a small cook-stoveand bed, $110.00,--- I also wish to suggest the necessity of putting a fence around the nursery. Two strands of barbed wire and one rail.--the posts are already set.

It would be well to ask the city engineers to stake out the location of the proposed reservoir, so I don't wish to clear it off for them.---

Estimate of supplies for the month of March Water pipe $400 Barbed wire 18 Cement 21 Grass seed 40 House for nursery 110 Lumber for closet 60 Nails 6 Paint 15

total. $670
