A. E. Boyd, associated with the Police Department, ordered a new badge as his other one had broken. The new badge was a different shape and cost more than the regular issue. The story of his "silver badge" appeared in the evening newspaper. Boyd offered to pay for his new badge and signed his letter "hoping you will attach the blame wholly to me."
