Remonstrance To the mayor and Common Council of Seattle Being interested in 57 feet on 3rd Street I desire to protest against the present extension of the Fire Limits First because there is an immediate demand for business houses and the people on 3rd Street are not able to build brick and even if there were brick buildings could not well be erected and completed before the rainy season. Again there are many now in tents who will be obliged to close their business on the approach of wet-weather to avoid injury to their stocks. Second if the proposed limits are adopted the City said extension is premature and should not be made until Front and Second Streets have been built up with Brick when there will be time enough for said extesion the whole thing looks like an effort on the part of those in the burnt district to keep business off from 3rd Street so that they may get much higher rents than they otherwise could.
