to the Honorable Mayor and City Council of the City of
Seattle, State of Washington
The undersigned citizens and keepers of fish markets
in the City of Seattle would repectfully represent, that
we are at great expense in paying rent for our several
markets, and keeping a variety of fish suitable for the
accommodation of the citizens of our young and growing City,
Under our present law anyone who can buy or borrow a
basket and catch a few fish can peddle the same in the city
without paying any rent for market, or tax or license of
any kind.
That this is done by parties generally, who are not
citizens of Seattle, to the great damage of us who pay rent
for our places of business.
We therefore pray your Honorable body that a License
of at leasst ten dollars per month be charged to all peddlars
of fish: and petitioners will ever pray.
