Headquarters Seattle Fire Department A.B. Hunt, Chief

Seattle, Wash., June 28th 1893

To the Mayor & Board of Fire Commissioners

Gentlemen, enclosed to papers received from Captain McAlleys of the fire boat Snoqualmie upon this the suspension of P. Connolly which action has been approved pending an investigation by your honorable board. The circumstances connected with this matter are such that I desire an invesitigation necessary. Chemical Engine Co No3 was disbanded on the 23rd and Engine CoNo 6 organized as per your instructions with R.A. Miller Captain and Geo H Wallace Lieut. The new Waterous engine was placed with engine Co No 3 on the above date and at a fire on the 26th failed to take suction for some time, an examination of the pumps was made and the valves found to be made of poor rubber and the leather on the right hand pump worn completely off. New leathers were put on and a temporary set of valves put in and a test made to-day

Headquarters Seattle Fire Department A.B. Hunt, Chief

Seattle, Wash., .... 189 An eighteen feet lift was taken but the pumps had to be primed before water was raised for some time a good stream was thrown but there is apparently something wrong with one of the pumps and another examination is being made. The Waterous Engine Works Co have been notified and the probabilities are that good service will not be had until the new valves arrive. I would recommend the purchase of two horses and a set of harnesses for Chemincal Engine No 2 and that two additional men be put on. In the accompanying estimate for expenses for August provisions are made seperately for the above. The fire boat Snoqualmie was scorched at a fire on the 26th there appears to have been poor management but I have not made a thorough investigation yet. Respectfully submitted A.B. Hunt Chief of Dept.
