best attainable, would mark
us as being a foolish and shortsighted
community.
We have at this time practically
no fire department at all. The
old volunteer department has
virtually gone to pieces, and even
were it desirable to do so could never
be reconstructed in this City.
The City must create a new
fire department, and that must
be a paid organization, disciplined,
and thouroughly equipt with
hoses and apparatus.
To do this will cost a large
sum of money. The annual charge
however will be more apparent
then real. The saving in insurance
premium alone, can be shown to amount
to a sum largely in excess of the yearly
expense of a paid fire department,
and who can reckon in dollars and
cents the saving to our City as in
mental rigor and comfort consequent
