Seattle, Washington, May 9th, 1893.

To the Honorable Mayor and City Council of the City of Seattle:

The undersigned, residence and property owners in Fremont in
the City of Seattle, hereby respectfully present this our remonstrance
against the allowance by you of the petition of L.A.
Griffith
and I. T. Burlingame for permission to extend in Fremont
their system of water pipes in Fremont, which petition has been
duly filed and was on April 25th of last, referred to a committee for
investigation and report.

The grounds of our remonstrance are as follows: That the
said L. A. Griffith and I. T. Burlingame do not own any permanent
water rights with which to supply their present system, or any ex-
tention thereof with water; that the water with which they now
supply their present system is, and has been heretofore taken by
them under a mere license, revocable at will from Samuel Blair and
William J. Dutton the owners of the Northwest quarter of the North-
west quarter of Section Nineteen (19), Township Twenty-five (25)
North of Range Four (4) East W. M., in said Fremont, and that
said license has been now revoked and recalled, and the said L. A.
Griffith and I. T. Burlingame will not, after the 7th day of June,
1893, be able to furnish any water whatever through their system.

That your petitioners believe that any grant to said L. A.
Griffith and I. T. Burlingame of permission to extend their water
pipes, as aforesaid, will seriously injure the said City of Fre-
mont, and the undersigned, your remonstrators, for the reason that
it probably would prevent any other person able to furnish the
people of Fremont with water, from laying pipes for water service
along the streets in which said extension might be made to the
great injury and detriment, as aforesaid, of your petitioners and
other residents and property owners in said Fremont.
