James Lowdon requested permission to operate his saloon out a tent for a few more days. He had been ordered to vacate the tent but hoped to keep it open long enough to liquidate the business. It was rejected. See full description in Digital Collections

To The Honorable the Board of the City Council of Seattle

Gentlemen Your petitioner James Lowdon respectfully showeth that he has bgeen a licensed retailer of [spitrus] and malt liquors for more than one year last past. That he suffered the [inconvenience?] of the late disastrous fire and freely paid licence during said time. That his present place of business is now located on Yesler Ave and in a tent ordered to be removed. In addition to this your petitioner has lately suffered a grievous business loss in the death of his partner.

Therefore your petitioner respectfully asks your honorable body to extend to him the privilege of opening his Saloon for a few days for the purpose of having his said business round up and a proper division of said Saloon property adjusted.

Respectfully James Lowdon
