COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Moses Keezer having been a member of the Engine House Committee and having ceased to be a member of the Council the vacancy in said committee as caused is filled by the appointment of Charles McDonald. Ordered the Council stand adjourned until Friday June 9th 1882, at 7 1/2 o'clock p.m. Attest E S Osborne Clerk Approved L P Smith Mayor Be it remembered that on this the 9th day of June 1882, the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment of June 2nd 1882. Present His Honor, the Mayor, L. P. Smith and Councilmen John Collins, M. Densmore, Wm. A. Jennings, Chas McDonald and G.L. Manning. Thereupon the following proceedings are had. A remonstrance is received from A. Spaulding and others against the contruction of the sidewalk on Eleventh Street, and the same is referred to the Street Committee. A petition is received from August Mehlhom praying for the right to lay water pipe along certain streets in the City of Seattle. The petition is granted. And now come the persons herein after named and make application for the licenses herein after named from the dates and for the periods herein after specified and at the same time said applicants file their renewal bonds in accordance with the ordinance relative thereto. After due examination said bonds are approved and the said applicants making due proof that they are men of good moral character it is therefore ordered that upon their compliance

JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE with all the provisions of the said ordinance the Clerk be and he is hereby intructed to issue license to said applicants for the period and purpose following viz Names Description of License Term (Conimenes?) Blanchard Co Wholesale Liquor 1 year June 12 - 1882 do Retail do 1 " June 12 - 1882 Trainey & Ackery do do 3 mos June 3 1882 The following claims having been duly audited by the council are ordered paid by warrants drawn on the funds and in the amount as follows, towit: City Fund Seattle Chronicle Printing No 82 $80.10 Cemetery Fund Narcisse Lebrachs Slashing No 1 $100.00 And now the Ordinance Committee submit Ordinance No 283, the same being entitled, "An Ordinance to provide for the levying and collecting of a special tax for the purpose of raising funds to pay for the construction of a sidewalk along the north side of Jackson Street from the west side of Eighth Street to the west side 9th Street, those crossing said Jackson Street to the south side thereof, and from there along the said south side of said Jackson Street to the west side of 12th Street, together with all necessary and lawful charges incident thereto" After due consideration said ordinance is adopted by the following vote, towit, In favor of adoption John Collins, M. Densmore, Wm. A. Jennings, Chas McDonald and G.L. Manning. Against adoption, none. And now the Ordinance Committee submit Ordinance No 284, the same being entitled, "An special ordinance to provide for the construction of a sidewalk as follows, towit: Commencing on Stewart Street at the alley which runs through block thirty-five(35), there along the north side of saod Stewart Street to the west side of Tenth Street, there along the west side of said Tenth Street to the north side of Virginia Street, there along the north side of said Virginia Street to the the north boundary line of the City of Seattle, in the County of King and Territory of Washington." After due consideration said ordinance is adopted by the following vote, towit: In favor of adoption John

Collins, M. Densmore, Wm. A. Jennings, Chas McDonald and G. L. Manning. Against adoption, none.

The Finance Committee return the report of City Treasurer for May with their report theron. Ordered that both reports be placed on file.

The Finance Committee report on the report of the Collection of Deliquent taxes whereupon both reports are accepted and ordered filed.

The Street committee report favorably on the petition of H. [W. Wadleigh?] et al; said petition is granted and the Ordinance Committee instructed to submit and ordinance in accordance therewith.

The special committee on Street Grades submit a report which is accepted.

Ordered that all the bids for Street Grading and sidewalks on 2nd, Pike, 3rd and Mill Streeets, Front Street and Union Street be rejected.

And now comes E. W. Rea, Contractor for the City Engine House and submits his bond [conditioned?] to perform his contact with the City for the construction of said Engine House.

Ordered that said bond be approved.

Ordered that the ordinance committee be and they are hereby instructed to submit an ordinance providing for the constructing of said Engine House, and that said committee submit a contract with E. M. Rea for the construction of said Engine House.

Ordered that the Street committee be and they are hereby instructed to advertise for new bids under ordinances Nos 271, 273, and 272.

Ordered that the Council stand adjourned until Friday June 16th, 1882.
