490 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE June 16th/84 Be it remembered that on the 16th day of June 1884 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to the call of His Honor the Acting Mayor Councilman U M Rasin for special business. Present, His honor the Acting Mayor Councilman U M Rasin & Councilman Thos Clancy, B F Day,John Keenen, Chas McDonald, B L Northrup, Otto Ranke & F W Wusthoff. Thereupon the following proceedings are had: A communication is rec'd from the Clerk regarding the levy of taxes. Adopted Bids rec'd And now the Council porceeds to open bids for the grading of Bell Street under Ordinance No 555, which bids are as follows, to wit: Wm Harkins $2775. W C Muir Earthwork per cu yd 27 cents Sidewalks per M B M [thousand board feet] $12. Boxdrains perM B M [thousand board feet] $14. Grubbing & Cleaning per acre $74. S G Simpson Earthwork per cu yd 34 cents Sidewalks per M B M [thousand board feet] $14.50 Boxdrains perM B M [thousand board feet] $19. Grubbing & Cleaning per acre $100. Ordered that the Contract be & is hereby awarded to W C Muir upon his executing a bond in the sum of $1000. & that the time for completion be fixed at 60 days after executing contract. And now the Council porceeds to open bids for the grading of James Street under Ordinance No 384, which bids are as follows, to wit: W C Muir Earthwork per cu yd 28 cents Cribbing per cu yd $2. Sidewalks per M B M [thousand board feet] $14. Boxdrains perM B M [thousand board feet] $17. Grubbing & Cleaning per acre $34. Simpson & Jordan Earthwork per cu yd 29 cents Cribbing per cu yd $2.40

491 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE June 16/84 Sidewalks per M B M [thousand Board Feet] $14. Box drains per M B M [thousand Board Feet] 19. Grubbing & cleaning per acre $90. Ordered that the bids be referred to Street Comtee to report next meeting. Ordered that the clerk be & he is hereby instructed to give 10 days public notice as required by law that a general election for all City Officers of this City of Seattle will be held on Monday July 14th 1884 The Officers to be elected are as follows to wit: One Mayor one Chief of Police, one Attorney, one Assessor, and from the 1st Ward 2 Councilmen for 2 years and one Councilman for one year: from the 2d Ward, 2 Councilmen for 2 years and one Councilman for one year and from the 3rd Ward 2 Councilmen for 2 years and one Councilman forone year. First Ward election to be held at the office of City Justice T H Cann on Washington Street Inspector O N Morse Judges Berry, Murphy and W H Barker Clerks Frank Plummer and B Rogers Second Ward Election to be held at the Engine House on Columbia Street Inspector D N Hyde Judges O C Shorey and Andrew Storah Clerk Robt Allen and Hiram Jacobs Third Ward Election to be held at North School House on 3rd Street Inspector Roswell Scott Judges W G Latimer & D T Denny clerks F E Sander & Marion Fry Consideration of Ordinances An ordinance is submitted entitled "Fixing the gas limits" After due consideration said Ordinance is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, Keenen, McDonald, Northrup, Ranke, Rasin & Wusthoff. Against adoption none. The Street Comtee return the petition of E Calvert et al on Battery Street recommending gthat the same be rejected Committees report adopted The Street Comtee recommend the granting of the petition of Mrs Harmon for repairning Columbia Street Adopted Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Tuesday June 17, 1884 at 8 o'clock pm for taking up the James St grade bids Attest E S Osborne clerk Approved H G Struve mayor June 17/84 Be it remembered that on this the 17th day of June 1884 the Common Council of theCity of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment Present: His Honor the acting mayor Councilman U M Rasin & Councilmen Thos Clancy, B F Day, John Keenen,Chas McDonald, B L Northrup, Otto Ranke & F W Wusthoff. Thereupon the foloowing proceedings are had: A report is rec'd from Street Comtee rejecting all bids on James Street grade for old Contract, provided no damages are claimed for changes of grade already made and provided further that contractors & bondsmen file in the clerks office a waiver of all claims to damages on Wednesday June 18, 18884 Adopted Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned.
