The Street Comtee return the petition of E Calvert et al on Battery Street recommending that the same be rejected Committees report adopted The Street Comtee recommend the granting of the petition of Mrs Harmon for repairning Columbia Street Adopted Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Tuesday June 17, 1884 at 8 o'clock pm for taking up the James St grade bids Attest E S Osborne clerk Approved H G Struve mayor June 17/84 Be it remembered that on this the 17th day of June 1884 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment Present: His Honor the acting mayor Councilman U M Rasin & Councilmen Thos Clancy, B F Day, John Keenen,Chas McDonald, B L Northrup, Otto Ranke & F W Wusthoff. Thereupon the following proceedings are had: A report is rec'd from Street Comtee rejecting all bids on James Street grade for old Contract, provided no damages are claimed for changes of grade already made and provided further that contractors & bondsmen file in the clerks office a waiver of all claims to damages on Wednesday June 18, 18884 Adopted Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned. 493 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE June17/84 mant the Council meets pursuant to call of the acting Mayor U M Rasin for special business Present: His Honor the acting mayor Councilman U M Rasin & Councilmen Thos Clancy, B F Day, John Keenen, Chas McDonald, B L Northrup, Otto Ranke & F W Wusthoff. Thereupon the following proceedings are had: And now the Street committee recommend that adoption of the remonstrance of James Mc Naught et al-v-Cherry Street Grade Adopted And now the Street Comtee recommended that grading of 5th Street from Union to Vine Adopted & Attorney instructed to submit an Ordinance therefor. Ordered taht a Contract be executed between the City & owners of property on Columbia Street between Front Street and the alley between Front & 2d for the grading of said portion of Columbia Street. Licenses Ordered Issued Orders that licenses be issued as follows towit: Geo Nadau for retail for 3 months from June 7 Blanchard & Co for wholesale for 3 months from June 12 Blanchard & Co for retail for 3 months from June 12 Fuhrman & Co for retail for 3 months from June 13 John Schaer for retail for 3 months from June 12 Mark Gottstein for wholesale for 3 months from June 17 James Peddie for retail for 3 months from June 13 Murphy & Co for retail for 3 months from June 12 Emil Davidson for retail for 3 months from June 13 F Claus for retail for 3 months from June 16 A claim ispresented be Jesse W George & I N Bigelow for damages caused by overflow of sewer upon Lots 2, 3 & 4 Block 18 Maynard's plat in the sum of $900.00. Rejected A statement is rec'd from the clerk showing cost of Madison Street extension. Condemnation proceedings & fixing levy at 41&6/10 mills on the Dollar. Attorney instructed to submit the necessary ordinance. Consideration of Ordinances.

494 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE June17/84 An ordinance is submitted entitled "To amend Section one (1) of Ordinance No 502" after due consideration said ordinance is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, Keenen, McDonald, Northrup, Ranke, Rasin & Wusthoff. An Ordinance is submitted to authorize a contract with the Spring Hill Water co for water for fire purposes Ordered that the Attorney confer with Chief of Fire Department & submit such an Ordinance s may be agreed upon An ordiance to condem old cemetary & turn same into a Park is referred to a special comtee to wit: [Day]], Ranke & McDonald to ascertain the cost of removing bodies. Report of Chief of Fire Dept referred to Wusthoff, Day & Keenen An ordinance is submitte ntitled "To appropriate fifteen hundred dollars to be used for the purpose of paying existing indebtedness against the City on account of lighting, cleaning and repairing the streets of the City" after due consideration said Ordinance is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, Keenen,McDonald, Ranke & Wusthoff. Against adoption Northrup & Rasin.
