656 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Be it remembered that on this the 3rd day of July 1885 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council chamber pursuant to law. The following officers are present to wit: Geo F Frye, Alfred Snyder, H L Yesler, W A Harrington, W G Latimer, W V Rinehart S D Crockett & Walter Graham Thereupon the following proceedings are had: Petitions Rec'd From the Seattle Gas Light Co for permission to grade Sixth Street fronting Lots 5 & 6 Blk 28 Maynard's in lieu of any future grade assessment fronting said property. Granted From Geo Probst et al for opening Mill Street between 3rd & 9th Streets. Referred to Street Comtee. From James Park et al for a sidewalk on Mill Street. Referred to Street Comtee. Reports & Communications From Board of Fire delegates submitting approved bills and reporting upon other Department matters. From Treasurer on Condition of funds. Ordered Filed From Justice Lyon showing fines collected. Ordered Filed From Chief of Police on arrests. Ordered Filed From Cemetary Commission on Cemetary matters. Ordered Filed From Jailor. Ordered Filed From City Justice showing fines collected. Ordered Filed From Street Commissioner. Ordered Filed From Atty submitting annual report. Ordered Filed From E A Gardner]] tendering his resignation as Police Officer. Accepted Ordered that F L Bangs be transferred from night beat to day beat. From His Honor the Mayor submitting his annual report. Ordered that said report be published at contract rates provided that 200 copies thereof are furnished the City for distribution.

657 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Committee Reports The Comtee on Public Buildings, Property & Grounds make the following report on the Claim of James McNaught for damages on a/c of Main Street Grade. Seattle W T July 3rd 1885 "To the Hon Mayor & Common Council of Seattle Your judiciary Committee have investigated the within claim and report the same back with the recommendation that the same be allowed in the sum of Eight Hundred and Fifty one & 62/100 Dollars in Condition that Mr McNaught will pay the full amount of principle and interest of all special assessments for street improvements upon property owned by him at date of the assessments. Walter Graham Wm A Harrington Alfred Snyder Ordered that said report be & is hereby adopted From Gas Committee recommending a gas lamp for the corner of Spring & 3rd Street.
