709 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Nov 6 1885 over until the next regular meeting and the Clerk directed to refund the deposit of $250.00 to each of said bidders. Ordinances An Ordinance is submitted entitled "An Ordinance granting the right to erect poles and stretch wires thereon for Electric purposes", which is read and referred to the Judiciary Committee. An Ordinance is submitted by the clerk entitled "A special ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills", which after being duly considered is passed dby the following vote, viz: In favor of said ordinance Calligan, Furth, Hall, Harrington, Keenen, Lake, McDonald, Post and Young Against none. Ordered that the Council do now adjourn attest: W R Forrest clerk H L Yesler, mayor Nov 20 1885 Be it remembered taht that Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber on this the 20th day of November 1885 pursuant to law; the following officers being present, to wit: His Honor the MAyor H L Yesler and councilmen J Furth, R H Calligan, Geo W Hall, W A Harrington, J Keenen, Chas McDonald and J J Post and T W Lake where the following proceedings were had to wit: Petitions Communications Petition of J G Armstrong for permission to establish a laundry at No 114 South Second Street. Referred to Committee on Fire and Water Petition of Sarah J Plummer et al for planking Second St from Main St South to the C & P S R R has depot and Jackson Street from Commercial St East to or near Third Street. Referred to Committee on Streets Petition on Western Mill Co et al for the apointment of an appraisor on the part of the City ot appraise damages to property condemned by Ordinance No 660 along the line of Rollin Street etension. Read and motion laid on the table. Plat of Fairview Homestead Association presented for approval by F E Sander Referred to City Surveyor. Reports Received From Judiciary Committee recommending the adoption of the Ordinance heretofore submitted entitled "An Ordinance granting the right to erect poles and stretch wires thereon for Electric purposes" provided that the parties presenting the same pay for publication of Ordinance. Adopted From same Committee approving reports of City Justice Hill Justice of the Peace Geo G Lyon and the City Jailor for month of October. Adopted and said reports ordered rec'd and filed. From the Finance Committee recommending that the sum of $13.50 be referred to P Fitzgerald on account ot erroneus valuation and taxation of Block 3 in Mercers Addition for the year 1884. Report adopted and the Clerk authorized to draw a warrant on the City fund in favor of said P Fitzgerald for said sum of $13.50 From Street committee recommending that the petition of Melody Choir et al for opening Will & Filbert Streets be granted. adopted

711 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Nov 20 1885 From Same Committee recommending that thepetition of J T Ronald et al be granted so far as the opening of Prince Williams Street without constructing sidewalks. Adopted From Com on fire and Water recommending that the petition of J G Armstrong for permission to open a Laundry at 14 South Second St and petition of John Roshalt and A Sanderson to open a Laundry on North Side of Main St be granted provided the applicants fit up their places subject to the approvalof the Chief of the Fire Dept. Adopted From Com on Sewers and Drainage approving Quarterly Report of the Health Officer and recommending the adoption of its suggestion made therein. Report adopted and the City requested to draw up and submit a "Cubic Air Ordinance" Communication of Granville O Haller suggesting that City Council reorganize the services of the 14th regiment of Regulars recently stationed in Seattle by a donation of $50.00 to eachCompany. On motiona special committee consisting of J J Post, W A Harrington, J Furth and the City Atty is appointed by His Honor the Mayor with request that they report upon said communicatin at the next regular meeting. Report of Fire Delegates upon the charges made against Engineer James Dunham Stating that said charges had been fully investigated by said board and said Dunham found 'not guilty', was rec'd and read, and consideration of the same continued until the next regular meeting.
