779 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Apr 2 1886 Councilman Lake submits an ordinance entitled "An ordinance to provide for the collection of Road Poll Taxes within the City of Seattle" On motion the ordinance is laid on the table until the next meeting The special order ofthe meeting is now taken up The city attorney reads an ordinance entitled "An ordinance to further extend and established Madison Street in the City of Seattle" On motion the ordinance is referred to the Street Committee and City Attorney to report at the next meeting On motion the permission hereto fore granted to T J Howard to conduct a laundry is revoked Councilman Calligan moves that the Inspector of Police be instructed to dismiss from patrolmen Councilman Post moves to amend by striking out all after the words "instructed" and inserting the words "to retain the police force as it is until next meeting" the amendment is lost by the folowing vote; viz: in favor thereof Councilmen J Furth, G W Hall and J J Post; against councilmen R H Calligan, T W Lake, Chas McDonald and G W Young Councilman Calligan's original motion is now put and carried by the folowing vote to wit: in favor thereof Councilmen R H Calligan, G W Hall, T W Lake, C McDonald and G W Young, against Councilmen J Furth andJ J Post Councilman J Furth calls up the matter of raising

780 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Apr 2 1886 the liquor licenses in the City of Seattle but gives way to a motion to make the question a special order for the next meeting and that the City Attorney be instructed to present a license ordinance with blanks for the amounts, which motionis carried. Clerk submits an ordinance entitled "A special ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills" which is adopted by the folowing vote, in favor of the adoption thereof Councilmen R H Calligan, J Furth, G W Hall, T W Lake Chas McDonald, J J Post and G W Young On motion the council does now adjourn Attest W R Forrest clerk by E Shepard deputy H L Yesler mayor Apr 16 1886 Be it remembered that on this the sixteenth day of April A D 1886 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law, the following officers being present to wit: Mayor H L Yesler and Councilmen R H Calligan J Furth, G W Hall, Chas McDonald, J J Post and G W Young thereupon the following proceedings are had The record of the proceeding of the previous session is read and approved.
