13 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE May 19 1886 which being read is adopted by the following vote: in favor of the adoption thereof Councilman J Furth, G W Hall, W A Harrington, J J Post and G W Young. against T W Lake On motion the Council does now adjourn H L Yesler mayor Attest W R Forrest clerk by E Shepard deputy ay 21 1886 Be it remembered that on this the 21st of May the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law. The following officers being present to wit: His Honor the Mayor H L Yesler and Councilmen R H Calligan, J Furth, G W Hall, W A Harrington, T W Lake, J J Post and G W Young. Thereupon the following proceedings are had: Record of proceedings of previous regular and special meetings read and approved. Petition of B Mulrine for renumeration for wound received Feb 8th read and on motion rejected Petition of J Christ for permission to locate his Cigar & Fruit stand at corner of Front & Columbia Streets, granted Assignment to J H McGraw of certain claim of J W George & I N Bigelow read and on motion Clerk instructed to return said assignment to J H McGraw Petition of G L Manning for fire plug at North East corner of

14 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE May 21 1886 Block 2 of Bell & Dennys plat read and referred to Fire & Water committee Appointment by Mayor H L Yesler of F A Fay as police officer is read, on motion the appointment is approved with the proviso that said Fay's connection with the police force shall terminate on June 1st Clerk presents the Tax roll for 1885 with affidavit of Treasurer attached, on motion the Clerk is ordered to enter in said roll a warrant for the sale of real estate for delinquent taxes and to return same roll and warrant to the City treasurer Mayor H L Yesler reports that on May 12th he suspended from office James Dunham engineer of Engine Co #2 on motion the action of the Mayor is approved without prejudice to said Dunham Mayor H L Yesler makes an order removing James Dunham from office Moved that the Council consent to the removal of said Dunham; lost by the following vote to wit: in favor thereof Councilmen W A Harrington, Chas McDonald, J J Post and G W Young; against Councilmen R H Calligan, G W Hall, J Furth, and T W Lake On motion of Council Furth it is ordered that the motion be reconsidered Moved that actionof Mayor be approved and James Dunham be removed from office carried by the following vote to wit: in favor thereof Councilmen J Furth, G W Hall, W A Harrington, T W Lake, Chas McDonald, J J Post and G W Young; against Councilman R H Calligan

15 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE May 21 1886 The following reports of Committees are received: From License Committee on petition of J W Jones for permission to peddle articles of h is own manufacture without a license, recommending that petition be granted on motin the report is adopted. From Sewer Committee on repport of HealthOfficer with their approval and recommending that a box drain be constructed in 5th Street to connect with sewer from University Grounds and to connect with Union Street sewer on motin the report is adopted From Judiciary Committee on motin of City Printing recommending that contract be let to the lowest responsible bidder for term of 13 months from June 1st 1886 to June 30th 1887, on motion the report is adopted From Judiciary committee returning reports of Justice G G Lyon, Justice G A Hill & Jailor J Bogart with their approval. From Street Committee recommending that Street Commissioner be instructed to repair bridge on LAke Street on motion report is adopted From City Attorney and Fire & Water Committee of petition of E F Lyon: that relief asked for can be obtained only through the Courts and recommending that no action be taken by the council on the matter, on motion the report is adopted From Finance Committee on petition of James Murphy for renumeratin for injury received while on duty as police officer recommending that he be allowed to sum od $122.50 on motion the report is adopted.

16 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE May 21 1886 From Finance Committee on Claim of Wm Murphy for salary as police officer from Feb 19th to May 1st that that said Wm Murphy has not been in the employ of the City since Feb 19 and hence has no claim against the City and recommending that the claim be rejected on motion the report is adopted Petitions for liquor license from the following are received and referred to License Committee B Murphy, M McDonald, A F Hill, Chas Ross, E Champeaux, Chas Ross, T Radcliff, V Schmid and Gumbert & Dickman The following petiton for liquor licenses having been approved by the license Committee are granted and licenses ordered issued. On motion the Committee on Fire & Water are instructed to investigate the matter of hose supply Clerk submits on ordinance entitled "A special ordinance appropriating money to pay audited billl" which adopted by the following vote; in favor thereof Councilmen R H Calligan, J Furth, G W Hall, W A Harrington, T W Lake, Chas McDonald, J J Post and G W Young On motion Council does now adjourn until Monday May 24th at 7:30 PM H L Yesler mayor Attest W R Forrest clerk by E Shepard deputy J J Post and G W Young; against none
