Benjamin S Grayson

Grayson was a merchant at Velasco soon after the Texas Revolution. In August 1840 he was a candidate for mayor of San Antonio, and was elected Sheriff of Austin County on February 6, 1843. He acquired a considerable amount of Texas land in the San Antonio area by purchasing land scrip that had been used to pay Texas soldiers. After the Mexican War he took a mule train of supplies to Los Angeles, California. He grubstaked miners, bought property around San Francisco, and acquired considerable wealth before his death in San Francisco on July 8, 1849.
