My darling, Thy letter just here and the enclosed postal from Sister - Father and I have decided that in view of heat etc. it is better to bring Jean home Sept. 11th

So Father has made this plan which seems good to me: that thee should go to Phila. on Monday and attend to what business thee has there, and join him on Tuesday, the 11th at the 11.30 train from New York. Sister thee sees will get Jean to N.Y. and start him off with father so thee need have no care about him. Will thee answer about this arrangement right away so that Father may be easy in his mind - he rather dreads bringing Jean alone, but is a kind about it. I really think thee ought not to delay thy coming later than the 11th. I would be so unhappy to be sick with thee away, and that is getting very close to the date.

My dearie, I feel it all as keenly as thee does but there is nothing for us but to grit our teeth and work - I have never felt so powerless in my life.

Courage and our love for each other will bring all right - I want to talk to thee about Mr. Machiel & work.

I have felt for some time that we were perhaps too great idealists.

My love to thee Margie.

Writing tries me very much wherefore my brief letters
