83.83.1 Wednesday May 2727 1868 Commenced planting corn

Thursday May 28th finished planting corn

Saturday May 30th Jimmy Boyd and myself started about 6 o'clock a.m. after fish to Perryville and succeeded in getting 1100 herring at $1.50 pr hundred - besides 1 1/2 bushels of "Peach blow" potatoes for Rev. L. C. Rutter at $2.00 per bushel.

Sunday May 31st Reached home with my fish just at day light in the morning. cleaned and put our fish in pickle after breakfast. Let J Boyd have 400 herring.

Tuesday June 2d Drained the fish and packed them away in salt. Thursday June 4th Jimmy Boyd worked all day on the roads. Levi Barnet took dinner with us. Planted broom corn and pumpkin seed.

Friday June 5th Jimmy Boyd worked all day on the roads. Harriet and myself went to Mr Rutter's and left his potatoes

and called at Mrs. Pralls. J Boyd got 14 lbs of flour. Saturday June 6 th. Very warm day. Jimmy Boyd worked his lot in the morning. He and I took "Kitty" over to the Union. Sunday June 7th went to Church at Chestnut Level. Monday June 8th Jimmy Boyd worked all day, with the oxen on the roads. Tuesday June 9 th Jimmy Boyd went to Christiana and Penningtonville on a fruitless search for seed potatoes. Mailed letter to sister Mary. Wednesday June 10th Took Harriet & the children down to Isaac Woods to spend the day. called at Elim stoped at Edwd. Morgans and purchased 2 Bushels of potatoes (a mixture, principally Monitors.) for which I paid $1.70 pr bush[:.] [bushel] Thursday June 11th Rained all day, cut the potatoes for planting.

Friday June 12th Rained in the morning Mother R had sick head ache all day Planted potatoes s.w. of the orchard plowing the sod onto them and putting cold barn yard manure pretty heavily on top of them before turning the furrow over them. Rev. Mr Watson called and took tea with us gave a note for his accomodation to the National Bank of Lun: Co: for which I took a receipt explaining the nature thereof witnessed by D. A. R. Went to Jas: Brysons and vaccinated Rev. Mr Greggs infant also vaccinated my little son Willie let J Boyd have 16 pounds of flour

1 Saturday June 13th Beautiful weather went in the morning to Jas. Barne's to help them raise their new barn & finished planting potatoes rolled them then harrowed faithfully and rolled the ground again, hauled down rails from the "clearing field" and made most of the fence around the potato patch

sent David to the Grove for vinegar and afterward to Chestnut Level for a shoe I left at the shoe makers to be mended.

Sunday June 14th. This has been a lovely day Went to Chestnut Level church Rev Ms Sterrett preached from 11 Corith v chapt: 14-15 verses - preached (an excellent sermon) and then spoiled the effect by begging money for the purpose of establishing another proffessorship to the "Lincoln University" a Negro institution near Oxford, they have already been endowed with $80,000 and want $20,000 more making $100,000 to be invested in the laudable enterprise of making "silk purses of sows ears" Set a broken finger for Tommy Linton/

Monday June 15th Lent David "Colonel to ride down to Oak Hill. Wrote to sister [Bulan] [Jiming] commenced harrowing corn and finished the fence around the potato patch in the afternoon.
