Cloudy E. 30° January Wednesday, 1 1879 Went to Hollan's Corner. Fulford & Aquilla's and to office taking Willie with me. Charley did not go to store after dinner suffering with diarrhea. P. J. Stabler called left saussage. Gave him John Bowan's account (receipted). E N Bentley called after tea; C rode up & made up the mail but came home & spent the evening. F Snowden called & left the keys.

Thursday, 2 Snow Sleet 29°

Edwd Hill (wood man) called. Afternoon I drove to Ashton, office; the wind blew a tremendous gale, thermometer 29°. Came directly home again. Charley much better & staid at home all evening.

Clear N.W. High Wind 0°

Exceedingly cold with high wind. Thermometer zero. About home making out bills all forenoon; after dinner, drove over to Aquilla's taking Willie with me.

30° Clear High wind N.W. January Saturday, 4 1879 Another extremely cold blustering day. Wrote to Sister Mary. Recd letter from F. Tyson. Afternoon drove over to Aquilla's. Face nearly frozen. Wrote to F. Tyson.

5° clear - N.W.

Was called up at about 2 o' clock this a.m.and drove over to see cousin Annie Chandler, who was taken ill in the night. Went to Aquilla's and again to Cousin Mary Chandler's, where I dined whilst Charles drove on to Riverside to dinner & called for me on his way home.

15 ° Cloudy Monday, 6

Went to Winfield's. Had Polly shod at Sam Budd's, went to Jeff Hopkin's. Ernest F. Snovden & [...]McFarland here in Evening Charley Hill called & had tooth extracted. Miss M E Murphy here for advice etc

16° Clear N.W. January Tuesday, 7 1879 Took Harriet to Fulford and back. Went to Aquilla's: had ''Betty'' rough shod at T Budd's. Israel commenced going to school. Caroline Snowden here for advice &c. Bro; C & War'k' Stabler called. Also M E Murphy. After tea Charley & Dora went to Ingleside and ''the Cottage'' ''coasting.''

32 degrees Cloudy Wednesday, 8 S.E.

Sent Israel to Ellen Snowden's & got a turkey and pair of chickens. Went to King's to the office, Ashton and Brighton. Miss Thompson called and had tooth extracted. Mr [...] called to see about lost dog. Sarah Stubler called for advice & for Lizzie. Martha Stewart for advice for herself. Commenced raining about dark.

33 degrees Rain Thursday, 9 E

Rained all through last night and today. Continued rainy and exceedingly disagreeable: ground coated with ice. Almost impossible to keep ones feet from ''flying up." Charley went to office on ''Betty'' for me at noon. John Snowden and Frank Jefferson here (afternoon) for advice etc&c. I did go from home during the entire day.
